ABDC advocates retaining accountants on 2014-15 Skilled Occupations List

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

In our submission, ABDC recommends that the Department of Immigration and Border Protection: 1) retain accountants on the 2014 Skilled Occupations List (SOL) to meet future labour market demand; and 2) adopt a more flexible longer-term approach to reviewing skilled occupations for independent migration purposes.

In particular, ABDC proposes implementing a minimum three-year-cycle review of SOL occupations or a more flexible system, such as the one developed by SkillsSelect. These recommendations would lead to greater certainty in: 1) meeting projected labour market needs for accountants; 2) growing a more sustainable international education market and pipeline for future accountants; and 3) minimising the associated negative flow-on effect on SME productivity, university planning and funding.
