White Paper on MBA Rankings

Over the past decade, media rankings of business school programs, such as the MBA, have proliferated. The approaches and methodologies employed are many and varied. Each endeavours to assess quality. Yet each adopts a different perspective on how “quality” is defined and measured, accounting for the differences in ranking outcomes across the publications.
Typically, it is the MBA program that is ranked and this is often taken as a proxy for business school quality.

The Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) is keen to work with various media organisations to improve their rankings exercises. To this end, a working party was formed to develop a “white paper” that would provide a platform for discussion between ABDC and the media. This paper seeks to outline key issues, examine best practice and explore options for moving forward.
